So I'm going to DIY the service the first time. My two engines Volvo penta TAMD61A. I have ordered two bottles of 20L SAE40 oil, two filters, and one oil pump. The only thing I'm not sure is what kind of the corrosion inhibitor is right for the fresh water cooling system? The manual said Volvo Penta Anti Corrosion Additive but can't found it online. Any advice? Can I just used the inhibitor I use for home central heating system?
Many thanks.

Thank you Brucek. The link not include anti corrosion inhibitor. If using that 5L antifreeze coolant, it will need 12 bottles (or 6 bottles if mix 1:1 with water) for two engines which not cost effective. So that's why I'm looking for corrosion inhibitor to use with fresh water. Because the manual said if there is no frozen risk, then can use fresh water mix anti corrosion additive.

I may be wrong but that to my knowlege is the difference between the yellow and green. The yellow has a bias towards anti corrosion and the green towards anti freeze. Although neither is mutually exclusive.

Hi Brurcek. You are right. I think all the ready to use coolant contain anti corrosion. It just filling with ready to use coolant need large amount(30L each engine). For example 12 bottles of 5L cost £400+ just for the coolant. Not cost effective. So the manual said it can add only fresh water with anti corrosion additive if no freezing risk. I'm in South of England so no freezing risk for me. That's why I'm ooking for add water with corrosion inhibitor to do the job.

Thank you Scala. I was thinking to order the local brand VDS3 oil. Then I learned that their TBN usually around 9-10 only. It is better suit modern high speed engine with low sulphur fuel I think. And it might not good for my engines because I only use it almost always 600-1000 rpm only on the river and use very little hours. So I decided to use the old school SAE40 thick mineral oil instead. Then when comes to the coolant, I found there is no such product call anti corrosion additive for engine. Only found some general correction inhibitor for central heating system and commercial cooling system. I think it should be no different between engine metal or commercial metal or home metal. As long as the inhibitor is for all kinds of metal. I might be wrong, so that is why I am here to ask.

My point was that you can buy the proper Volvo coolant concentrate in 20L big packs. Alternatively, if you can find the Volvo spec then MartynG's suggestion (or similar) might well fit the bill.

Price an oil cooler or heat exchanger element first then a set of liners
all of the above I believe can be affected by using the incorrect water
This is one liner kit and will errode unless inhibitors used

The Volvo inhibitors were sold at time of Engine production but coolant became the norm to be used

Oh.. learning something new to me: The engine manual said drain the fresh water system every one year. But the concentrated coolant I am buying now said Service Life no less than 5 years. So, should I change it every year or every 5 years if I use it? What do you think? Thanks

Hi Lucas, this may not be as Hi-tec as some of the other posts and you may think this stupid but I would look at ASDA's( yes ASDA ) own brand of ready mixed coolant. It is manufactured to British standards and suitable for all engine types and its only £2 for 5 litres. Cheap does not mean it has to be nasty. Check it out. Jim

Hi Jim, thanks. I will keep this for next service. I have bought a 20L concentrated coolant which the manufacturer said it's okay to mix with water maximum 1:5. I will mix it at 1:3 as I totall needed 60L. Many thanks.
