Took my niece out for her first sail on Mariposa yesterday. Do you reckon she enjoyed it?

She's just seen this post and now reckons she's famous!

If you look at the two pictures one of the major differences is that in Mariposa's his niece is on the tiller, in Spyro's the tillerpilot is doing all the work. I have a 3 year old granddaughter who can't wait to go out on my boat as I let her steer. My belief is that they feel then they are in control. She has even got the hang of pressing the buttons on the autohelm, but port and stbd mean nothing to her but a red 1 or a green 10 she can understand. When she is steering the instructions are always push it away from you [the tiller] or pull it towards you.

Couldn't agree more (see my earlier post).

I took my children narrow boating and the two youngest took to tiller steering a 70ft narrow boat round bends, under narrow bridges, tunnels etc, with skill and verve. Just told them about pushing and pulling in opposite directions and where the turning point was (a plant in a bucket on the roof!). Kids on boats are much more competent than usually allowed for.

The older two + two friends just wanted to sunbathe (day) and club (night).

We all had an excellent holiday, even though the holding tank didn't.

The spray dodgers do work, though they are better for keeping the wind off and the pockets come in very handy.

You are correct the clue is in the picture but it has more to do with the fact that his jeans are flying from the boat hook in an attempt to get them dry.
