evening everyone
This is my first post here, and I come for help :)
I have found two boats that suit my needs, I will be based in sa rapita Mallorca
the two boats in questions are an airon 388 in excellent cosmetic condition, d6 310 engine ...... decent price, stored for 4 YEARS !!! in a hangar north of Como usual " broker " talk .... as everything fine don't worry:rolleyes:

the second one in Puglia . an ilver 39 spada with a kad44p, boat owned by uniesse who gave me an optional price to refit some of it and fully "check" everything
by my side is a surveyor and great captain friend ( sailing boat )
I think I can just about muster the electronic side ( profession)
where we come stuck is on the mechanical side as I keep hearing horror stories about both engines, but equally I'm certain that countless happy users are out there
On both engines, what checks and remedies need performing so i can clearly outline them as a condition of sale?
Hope someone with proper knowledge will chime in

Your surveyor should be able to advise you
or
look for a full service history and get a mechanic to come out on a sea trail .

What you seem to be asking is " what will go wrong with them and i will make it the sell who has to change all those bits now."

each engine is different, you can only find a fault if it is there, so see above.

How you proposing to use it ?
Floating appartment /boat or do you have hard standing accommodation -villa/appartment ?
Reason I ask if space inside is not that important -going forwards avoid an "old " ish Volvo Penta set up (fine new first 7 y or so )
Reason maintenance night mare -
Go for a shaft drive
Itama 38 loads about ,Pershing 37 ( 2 versions cabin -open) -you lose out in interior space but gain arguably on reliability and sea keeping -crossing to other islands ?
Here is an Ilver 39 with CATs 350's -Passerelle -Med Spec

Volvo D6 has external steering rams in the sea = trouble
Kad44 in that Ilver will be under powered .0.001 :)mm of growth on the props and you struggle to get it on the plane .
 
As Portofino says - how do you intend using it.
Think very carefully.
When you say "based in Rapita" does that mean you have an apartment there?
If so, you have this place - right on the doorstep.

If you do have shoreside accommodation and considering it as a day boat, maybe a big fast RIB might be more appropriate.
 
goodmorning everybody .... I frequently wander around those shores ( es trenc maybe or sa rapita even )
we live in cala pi, we currently have mooring in sa rapita :o , we will use the boat on long day trip, cala hoping , i think occasional overnight
so my main wants are , front and back sunpads, a decent social area ( we ruled out sunseekers toma/super for the narrow cockpit ) , we would want it to be fast if possible ( we currently have a little yamaha 240ss .... plenty fast but we don't expect anything 37-41 to be this fast on my budget )
We like the fact that the current boat is a getup and go ...... full throttle from S Espanyol to es caragol ......... and back ....zero problem ,just add petrol !!!!
Registered on yachtvillage/modialbroker/yachtworld ......... zillions to choose from although mainly in Italy ( Spanish market full of northern Europe models that don't really suit our need and sometimes our budget of €100k )
so there you have it ....... any other recommendation is welcome
 
anybody with a 37 pershing yanmar /shaft drive experience here ? they look alright and they come with a "decent price tag "
