Despite having been boating for about 7 years I am planning my first ever overnight stay on the boat with family this weekend, in a marina with shore power.

Any advice to offer a first timer to ensure there will be a second time? or any amusing stories from your first time?

When (not if) your precious stuff gets broken, count to ten and don't get cross about it.

Just be pleased if you manage to get away without someone setting off your EPIRB and the ensuing police action.

.

Tell me about it! I've just had my teenage son with 3 of his semi-moronic friends on my boat for a week (thanks SWMBO). There was a lot of counting to ten thru gritted teeth, I can tell you! Still its all over now except for the repair bills (cracked RIB hull, broken fridge door, guest toilet making odd noises and assorted woodwork chips)
