A magnificent effort by Pierre-André Huglo in Fresh Herring:




He arrived in Ouistreham yesterday, the first boat home in the Longue Route event.

Although not a race, he overtook most of the Golden Globe racers and arrived in notional third position - despite setting off a month later from 100 miles further up Channel.
He had originally wanted to do the GGR but the boat did not qualify.

He had no engine, sprayhood or dodgers; had hank on sails, the smallest boat in the fleet and Guy Cotton oilies!
Chapeau to that man.

If he completes the course (he may already have crossed his outward track) he will be the oldest person to complete a single handed non stop circumnavigation .. we think

Fantastic! I would love to have a look at his boat as it's so similar to mine. I changed to roller reefing last year as I found hanks too much work when solo, well done that man!
