A magnificent effort by Pierre-André Huglo in Fresh Herring:

He arrived in Ouistreham yesterday, the first boat home in the Longue Route event.

Although not a race, he overtook most of the Golden Globe racers and arrived in notional third position - despite setting off a month later from 100 miles further up Channel.
He had originally wanted to do the GGR but the boat did not qualify.

He had no engine, sprayhood or dodgers; had hank on sails, the smallest boat in the fleet and Guy Cotton oilies!
Chapeau to that man.

And Chichester based Tony Curphey should be crossing the equator on his way back soon in his Nic32 Nicola Deux

If he completes the course (he may already have crossed his outward track) he will be the oldest person to complete a single handed non stop circumnavigation .. we think

Fantastic! I would love to have a look at his boat as it's so similar to mine. I changed to roller reefing last year as I found hanks too much work when solo, well done that man!

How is your French? There is a video here which shows the boat, a little:

See about 19 min in.

Plus two others on YouTube which show his departure.

Click on the cog at the bottom right, click captions to turn on, then select autotranslate to English. It's not brilliant, but at a similar level to my French.

That's new to me, thanks. Works great!

Actually it is a terrific surreal, free verse generator, grand. Taking lines from the text:

And Nothing That Play With The Wind And I

And nothing that play with the wind and I
I more than enough for my needs
Little tone of your nautical career
When we search a little

Good have on the high seas and wholesale
That I have been all my life
Today is the tree, so we went
Loosen with bolts

There is a woman that goes so far here
To do it the day before, without being
I have three strips of rice
I more than enough for my needs.

:D
