lying down for a well earned rest after braving the Cowes Fireworks display.. bloody good it was watching from the outskirts of the Medina with what seemed 100's of other boats... was a fun day all in all, especially watching a 30+ Broom do an about turn in between me and a large tour boat outside East Cowes F pontoon (goodness knows what he thought he was doing,,, backed in to the tour boat missing it by a couple of feet then headed straight at me before doing another about turn to follow us out the river:rolleyes:)... dropped friends off at East Cowes after having a BBQ on the boat during the display and then headed off to Calshot in the dark at about 11:30pm... made it across without incident apart from some dirty great fly bridge cutting me up coming back in to Calshot by the Fawley station, presumably he was on his way to Hythe.. I was stand on but took avoiding action as it was clear he'd not seen me.. never mind, it happens I guess.. anyways, quite chuffed with myself for making it back ok... another little confidence booster albeit a short yet busy passage.

Yup, the trip back across the Solent in the dark after the Cowes fireworks can be a bit of a buttock clencher

It was our first trip to the fireworks last night, and our first night passage in the Solent. It's amazing that a trip that you do so many times during the day can be so different in the dark. It's also amazing the speed that some boats were passing us at. We were making a steady 13kts but some guys must have been passing us at 30kts plus, one with only his port nav light working. Brave or daft I wonder.

Thanks for posting that Gary , didnt make it this year , looked as good as ever and congratulations on the night passage , got your sights on a yachtmasters ticket eh;).
