Just got back from a long weekend on the boat. On Sunday night we had a Fray Bentos steak & kidney pie done in our oven with roasted carrots and new potatoes (both partly pre-cooked). The pie was excellent! We will definantly be stocking up for future occaisions.

No connection with Fray Bentos, just a satisfied customer! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Been eating them during my bachelor days in the 70's until SWMBO took over the cooking. Reintroduced as a result of this forum. GREAT. ps make sure you cook em long enough. Soggy pastry is not too good.

-soggy pastry not too good- well I actually quite like the soggy bit underneath the brown crust... but I have experimented with longer cooking times and can't seem to get it really crisp all the way through- any hints? would removing the pastry and cooking it on a baking tray work?

lets be honest, there is nothing on this planet that's going to make dog food in a yellow plasticine outer taste or look good! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Serving suggestion, best served after sailing! (or motor cruising)..... Has any one noticed this?
Have had FB with and without being on the water before hand and have only found it satisfying (to a degree) to the taste buds post sailing.
Perhaps you could try the same meal on board except next time without a trip out and see if it is as pleasureable ...maybe? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
