Following on from Drew's post, which was obviously a blatant attempt to wind up the Major.....

Mrs. Seagoon and I also decided to get out "for the fishing" today.

'twas a glorious morning leaving Castletown, with Mrs. Seagoon at the helm (this is the wake shot!)...

So we ventured round Scarlett Point into Bay Ny Carrickey and mooched around waiting for the fishfinder to bleep. It was quiet as the grave, a handful of boats out in total, one of which was Drew's, whose path we crossed. We paused to say hello before carrying on with our fish hunting.

Plenty of hunting, but not a lot of fish. Still, in the last few minutes before we were to head back in - success.

What a Pollack.

And so we returned to Castletown, intending a quick bite at the Gluepot.

It was not to be. I went up to the bar and enquired "Are you serving food?", "No" came the sullen reply. So I said to Mrs. Seagoon, "Let's drop in to The Shore on the way home".

This is "The Shore".

and this is the view from the tables outside. Bay Ny Carrickey, we're sat about 400 yard from where we just caught our fish.

And this is the sign outside.......

So I'm just about to step inside and order lunch when Mrs. Seagoon says "I wonder if they'd cook that fish"....

So I asked (I think you can probably see where this is going now /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

This is Richard, one of the Two Fat Chefs...

And a close-up of "lunch".

Mrs. Seagoon says we're having fish tagliatelle for supper /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

It was yummy, but far too huge. I'm still stuffed more than 4 hours later, and the chef wrapped at least half of it up for us to bring home. Most important thing though, is that Neddie has finally found a solution to the problem of catching fish when you have a SWMBO who is a rubbish cook /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

He suggested as we left the pub that they put up a sign outside 'YOU CATCH IT, WE'LL COOK IT', but they said if they did that someone would turn up next week with a sheep. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

That really is the sign of a quality chef, and a quality restaurant by the looks of it - couldn't imagine walking into any restaurant near here or in Birmingham and getting that kind of treatment!

OK Steve I guess you win this round..............just.
We tried about where you were but not a nibble........ you must have caught the only one there...... Darn....

Keep on smiling

Cheers

Drew...........

haven't been over for a while, is the restaurant is on the road from urm Port Erin down to the sea near Port St Mary and along the coast where there was the falling down farm. Think it is, looks a thousand times better. Fish looks fantastic also.

My wife would not approve of your lunch as the best bit has been chopped off. She loves the cheaks and eyes and to suck on the bones, by the way she's Vietnamese.

Glad you had a good day.

Yep, that's the place Debs, Gansey - on the coast road between Port St. Mary and Castletown. Obviously been refurbished within the past few years, all very nice and unworn. Bar, restaurant, apparently a few rooms, WiFi, clean, good service etc.. It seems to be very popular, and we've certainly been pleased each time we've stopped for a meal.

We passed the Shore Hotel, but as it was off season at the time, it didn't look that inviting as there were no cars in front of it. But, it is def on my list for next time.

Prolly referring to the fact that you can see the car park from either of the two entrance/exits.

It looked deserted when we passed it...on our way to meet Drew as we were looking for places to take him to lunch. In the end we went to the 'cafe' overlooking the Calf of Man.

It is not often I come across a tourist 'cafe' that only sells home made food.
