I hope you'll indulge me here. I want to share an early recollection of what sparked a passion in my life; boating. It happened a long time ago and it's still with me, I couldn't shake it even if I wanted to. I'm curious about how you became involved in boating. What was it that made you buy your first boat? What is it you love about it? Was it a passion or something that scratched an itch? Why are you a boater?

Started as a kid I suppose. Dad was always a boater, rag and stick tho, so I did a bit of that (dinghies etc) but hated it mostly tbh. Uncomfortable, shifting from side to side to avoid the boom but inevitably getting hit by it on occasion! Now, canal narrow boats I loved so being on the water was my idea of heaven and that has always stuck with me. Didnt do any boating whatsoever from about 15 to 40yrs but have always missed it to a degree so now in early 40's and financially free-er, we bought our first boat, then our second and have never looked back. It is, I can say for sure, an absolute passion and wouldnt trade it for anything. The freedom, the relaxation, the stillness, the people (mostly) the 'just being' of it all. For me, nothing compares. And stupid as it may sound, it just puts a constant smile on my face just at the thought of going down to the marina for the day or weekend or even better...the week!

Reading Swallows and Amazons as a 6 year old, suffering at home with mumps. Toe in the water with a mirror dingy, then lots of sailing including windsurfing.

First mobo came much later in life, after a hireboat on the Norfolk Broads.

Canal boat holiday on the Wey and Thames when I was 7. Another canal boat holiday when I was 36!

I would love to know how something so relaxing can make one so tired!

Great answer lisilou. Heading for the marina in about an hour - going out for a week to ten days. You should see my smile...:D

And as I read your post, I smile with you. Our boats still in menders and have missed it so much i have seriously considered just sitting and dangling my feet over the empty berth :). I hasten to add that I didn't actually do that but it did cross my mind :o.

New girl here :)

Wouldn't say better Lisilou!
Bought my first boat 5 years ago, ready for the second one now, and sure it will go on and on and on... a whole sea of possibilities, lots of fun, energy, relax and inspiration.

Cheers to all sea souls!

Hi Ana,
I can't help you with that but can I suggest you post your question as a new thread? It might get lost amongst this thread otherwise.
