Hi Folks, I have recently moved to Sweden ( west coast) and have made the decision to take advantage of the location to get a boat for the first time. I am wondering is which one, and I would appreciate your comments and thoughts

Criteria
Used ( unless you can tell me different)
Cost - about 20k sterling
Size - 20-25ft
General - comfortably fitted out for day cruising and longer trips along the Swedish and Norwegian coast
Names from what I have read and liked - Searay 230/240, Falcon Capriole/ Sealine

Any guidance you can give will be most gratefully received, thanks in advance

I'd certainly be inclined to look at Scandanavian boats, given where you will be keeping it. Windy, Nimbus and Draco are obvious quality names to look out for (ask Dave_Snelson about buying a 2nd hand Windy) and, more recently, Ryds and Aquador look good, although their comparative newness may put them outside your budget.

Nothing wrong with the names you have mentioned (Sea Ray in particular /forums/images/icons/smile.gif) but I'd go for something built with local climate and similar considerations in mind.

Yep - here I am!

It would make sense to me to look at the makes that jhr suggest, not because I am a big Windy fan, but more to do with your location. The dealer network that you buy from is as important as the boat you buy. A correctly sold and well maintained boat from a quality outfit, is a joy to own. The opposite is a nightmare. You have to trust me on this as there are no Windy dealers in North Wales!! I am lucky enough to have a good marine engineers firm near enough to make a difference.

All that said, it is widely recognised that the Scandanavian makes are well made. Let us all know how you get on.

Cheers
Dave.

Here we go, the first few I have. Did Marlow to Gallions Point Marina, Then out to old Ford Dagenham Works, then up to St Kats.

Definateley look at Nimbus, I bought a twenty year old one last year very well built and obviously suited to your new waters. Easy to handle single handed well laid out and god bless bowthrusters! Price should be right in Sweden , god bless Terry Wogan and the Eurovision Song Contest ! Kawasaki

Thanks for the ideas, I have looked at the Swedish and Norwegian boats but the really hold their value here - I guess locally known brands are always valued higher.

For the money I am looking to spend I could get a 25 - 30 year old Nimbus and the rest at that price tend to be centre pultpit boats which don't really give the option for more than a few hours motoring around the area.

I suspect that a good British built boat will handle the seas here and the season for boats here on the west coast only seems to be 5 months ( they obviously stick to the tried and tested Viking raiding season)

Please keep the advice coming
