Hi. I just bought our first boat, a bit 'bottom end' of the market, but she floats and I've been busy mending stuff in preparation for out first few trips on her. She's a 7m river/estuary cruiser (floating caravan) berthed in the yacht basin at Walton on the Naze. I've been skulking around this forum for a while and having seen how friendly and informative it is, joined today. I have many questions..................many many questions but I'm not a total numpty having served as an Ordinary Seaman on Trintiy House tenders and motor boat bowman/middleman, many years ago.

Did I say first boat? Well, I did previously own an unfinished project, sold on as an unfinished project who never got her bottom wet during the three years I owned her. I did however do my RYA Dayskipper (sail) while I owned her.

I can't ever see a day when me, the wife and the dog venture much further than Walton's backwaters, Harwich Harbour with the Stour and Orwell. We may even move her inland next year, we'll see how this 'summer' goes. This boat is gonna roll on a ripple :p

So there it is, hello everyone

Barry

Yep, welcome Barry. There are a few of us ditch crawlers on here, and much of the river talk is on the Thames forum, which despite its name does cater for other rivers.

Great stuff Barry and welcome to the forum. Hope all goes well with the launch. I know your waters very slightly having recently spent an afternoon at the top of the Orwell in Neptune harbour Ipswich, with RIB tied up and a sunny lunch in one of the harbourside restaurants. But that's as far as my knowledge goes!

Neptune Harbour is lovely, only ever been there by land, the rest of the Orwell is littered with marinas, again, only ever visited by car................until now. I'm going to have to pick my days though, she's has a very flat bottom. I can only guess that she has been at sea as there is a GPS plotter and DSC VHF. We're planning a potter around the backwaters this coming weekend to shake out any (more) bugs and build some trust.

Hi Barry & welcome
She looks a fine vessel & you will have many Magic Moments in her.
Don't be afraid to ask.
Regards MM 1

Congratulations.

Enjoy your weekend potter.

Don't worry too much about the shape and size because we all get about the same amount of pleasure from our boats when we can spend time on board, or on the water.

And, whatever your budget, we mostly all get the same amount of things that go wrong too. I was surprised to read about the Med-based mobo guys taking spare parts out on the plane with them for their boats. I thought that if one spent enough money and escaped the bad weather, nothing ever went wrong!

Cheers

Garold
