Not much to go on other than it started in the galley. Wonder if they were cooking anything?

I worry more about galley fires and gas leaks than anything else. Its so easy to put something on and then become distracted by something on deck..before you know whats happened your cheese on toast in blazing away.

Just last Saturday I put the kettle on and forgot it for 10 mins .. when I remembered it the cabin was like a sauna... had it been the grill it could have been a different story..

Im installing a smoke detector, next time I go down.. I recon £5 well spent!

It would be interesting to read their account of events in detail. With so little said about the cause it is no more than a sad sailing story. With more detail we might all learn something from it.
