A little while ago someone mentioned in passing that there is a Finesse Owners Website. Well I have Googled me brains out, and tried all manner of combinations all to no avail.

There is a very, and I mean very tentative deal sort of hovering about, but like as not it will probably not happen. The boat involved is a real cracker, in beautiful condition.

To be truthful though, as good as she is, I am not sure that she is the way I want to go, even if the deal was to come to fruition, I really want an old gaffer (Gaff Cutter for preference)...........but she is gorgeous. Ho-Hum, anyway, it probably wont happen.

Want a gaff cutter? So do I -- I've got a Finesse 24 rigged as a bermudian cutter. Some 24s were built as gaff sloops and cutters. When I have the cash (and have fixed the decks) I would love to convert Serinette. I am still trying to find a gaff Finesse to get some measurements, but be assured it can be done!

I've seen some pictures of a 24 rigged as a gaff cutter, lovely looking boat. I'll see if I can find them again.

And FWIW Mr Smiff they're great boats if you want my entirely biased view!

Ha-ha! I just looked at your Bio! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Yes I know they are great wee boaties, and my head says if I am offered the deal to go for it, but.............

I am really wanting something older.....yes I know I am a bit daft!

The particular Finesse I am sort of interested in, is one of the Iroko ones, and she aint got a sniff of rot in her at all, she is afloat, and she has totally dry bilges! The sails are a bit tired, but would probably do for a couple of more seasons use. The trouble is, I have put a lot into my Nomad, including windvane self steering and I don't want to let the windvane go in the deal. That could be a stumbling block. It's all a bit complicated really, and like I said, it's all likely to fall on it's arse. Best, Charlie.

Hi, we have spoken about this conversion before. I have just had a new Genoa and am currently awaiting delivery of a new main for my Finesse, Sea Beatrice. I had them made by Peter at W Sails in Leigh on Sea. He even has the main for a 24 marked out on the floor of the loft. He apparently made most of the original sails for all sizes of Finesse and has most of the original sail plans for the boats he supplied. He showed me a drawing for the sail plan of a Finesse rigged as a gaff cutter which he had rigged and made the sails for. I believe the timber spars had also been made locally too. He is a charming man, an invaluable fund of information and it is great to support independent sailmakers like him. I suggest you pay him a visit.
