Hi all,
Just been backpacking for 5 months. Looking to get work in the Med this summer as a deckie on a superyacht but have heard some offputting reports, boats being laid up over summer etc. and what with the economic situation, it'd make sense.
Anyone have any news as to what kind of season is expected?
Thanks in advance! Might have to be back to the Jersey Harbours summer work again!!

From chatting to two mates of mine, they're doing OK. One has just moved from South of France as engineer to start work on another yacht in Thailand. The second has just completed his time in the Royal Navy and has started as engineer on a yacht in Nice.
Both have 20+ yrs engineering experience so cannot comment on your own particular situation. I'd talk to the recruiters and try get word from lads and lasses working as crew.

Yup, for sure, it's compeltely different from 2007 when lots of new builds meant shortage of all grades. Right now lots of boats are mothballed and/or for sale, and there are lots of good folks including captains and good stewies who are out of work and just dayworking to get by. So it's tough and you'll need some luck to get a good job

My comments are ex-Antibes but I suspect it is same in Palma
