OK folks, so here's the situation.

Friend of mine wants a Hard Top but likes the layout of his Zaffiro 34.

So here's the requiriments:
Twin diesel out-drive (IPS / Shaft not an option)

2003+
34 - 37ft LOA
Hard Top
Similar layout to Zaffiro 34, so....
Large social cockpit
Forward seperate master cabin
Aft twin-room cabin (must be seperate to saloon with door)

Budget: €150k euro

So basicly something similar to a Zaffiro 34 but with a Hard Top. Any suggestions??

Well I am selling my 2006 Fairline Targa 34 to purchase a Squadron 43, not a hard top but an excellent boat in your price range - just advertised on Essex Boatyards if they are interested let me know via PM!

MUST be a hard-top, otherwise he'd just have another Zaffiro 34

Elan Power 35, Finnmaster 31 Grandezza (bit small), Sealine SC35 (probably out of budget), Jeanneau 34 Sport, something by Bavaria?

Elan - I saw one of these at a marina lately and commented on how lovely it looked, someone just turned around to me and said '****e boat' without any explination... any truth to this?

I was thinking a Jeanneau 34 HT myself, they seem to fit the bill and are nice and beamy to boot

Bavaria 35HT if you're lucky will just about fit in the price range. Thats a good choice becasue the Z34 is a large 34 and the Bav has an equally large aft cabin, with better forward cabin and saloon.

The Elans are cracking boats, but thats just my opinion. Rare as hens teeth though.

you should really try a jeanneau 34 hard top. These boats are good value for money, especially when considering your budget. Where is the boat to be kept. If you let me know i will try and get you a better price.

if he wants the build quality and the sea kindliness associated with a Cranchi I would look at the
1) new Sessa 38 Cruiser just over 1 feet to be launched in Cannes
2) Rio 36 Air full beam cabin and 2 heads worth a look and competitive price
3) Riviera 3600 Sport Yacht Series II IPS with 3 berth mid ship cabin
might be off budget but worth a look

The Cheapest is the Jeanneau Prestige 34 HT for around £110k. May also get Bavaria 35HT, 37HT or smaller 33HT (still a good layout). Also available is the Windy 37HT. Most other boats did not go hard top until recently. The Elan 35 is a great all round boat but not many sold and so difficult to get hold of.

Cheers

Paul

I've only heard good things about the Elan, although they're less spacious than the Cranchi. Good sporty handling though, and there is, or at least there was, one in Cowes within budget.

yes Elan 35 has Tony Castro hull and the fame is quite good around these boats, altough they are a bit cramped outside for a 35 feet
new Galeons have Tony Castro hull too and I would also have a look at the new 325 HT launched in the begining of this year, the Polish Galeon IMO feels spacious as the Elan, with the outside feeling bigger

was not Fairline supposed to do a Gran Turismo version of there 38? I think I heard the rumour in 07, but so far noting has ever appeared

I had the similar question half a year ago at a slightly higher budget. My conclusion is there is nothing like the Zaffiro in hard top because the Zaffiro is so spacious and airy when aboard.
I think the Hard Tops can never beat the Zaffiro open air feel, so can't really have both of the same world. The Sealine 35 could be nice closest thing with the "convertible roof", but I heard many says the Hard Top would result in a hot cockpit, so do note this.
The Jeanneau 34HT is a nice balance, and you may also wish to look into the Beneteau Monte Carlo 37 Hard Top, it is a good buy for a Hard Top, only it is such a new boat, the price may not come down to your budget yet.
