Halcyon 27, I used to teach on them at JSSC back in the dark ages.

Fantastic strong and surefooted seaboat that will take you anywhere and survive anything. I see you have a windvane, are you off world-girdling?

You have the right boat for it and very nice she looks, too.

Thank you John, not been accused of being a nice person before, and somehow it rests uneasily on my shoulders, so with your permission I'll go back to being objectionable.

Re: Halcyon 27

The red ones at JSSC were beefed up to MOD standards - just look at their Victoria 34's.
But the production boats were crudely produced by Offshore Yachts in Hertfordshire (where else?). This folkboat-based drawing was an early Buchanan attempt in grp influenced by the East Coast requirement for shallow draft. As a result they are tender compared with better designs like the Conti 26 or Invicta. This weakness is exacerbated by a high sail plan - but they have more headroom tho.
I personally didn't have the courage to add ballast or bring the boom lower, but I did remove the tack strop to bring the genoa down (and consequently got lotsa wear along the foot!..
Adding fronts to saloon cave lockers was a good move too. A sink in the galley step was a hazard which I never did learn to avoid) and the SL loo should have been thrown away not endured. But we had many seasons of fun sailing out of Emsworth to West Country and Channel Islands before moving up to . . . an Arpege, discovering that all the hot air about fin v long keels was pure bunkum - give me a well-balanced fin keel every time -Twister Ken, you ain't lived!

Re: Halcyon 27

The Halcyon 27 were moulded direct from a Alan Buchanan Diamond class wooden yacht, Ace of Diamonds. At four foot long keel, with nearly 1.5 ton of lead I would not call it light or shallow draft.

Our boat has two trans-Atlantic trips under her belt, including the East Coast of the USA, West Indies, Azors, Med, and back vis Biscay.

Yes. The real size of the image is 2559 pixels wide at a resolution of 91 pixels per inch. The resolution is irrelevant really as the display size on screens is 72 dpi (approx) and 700 pixels wide is about as much as the forum can manage because of the side bars etc.
Some browsers default to Resize Image to fit, some don't and some people have altered their preferences.
It is always a good idea to resize images before posting.

(sorry, for Halcyon really, but it's worth noting for anyone)

Checking the photo on Coral photo paint, it's 975 pixal wide, but insisted on loading that size.

Put in photoshop and it's true size is what I posted. Corel draw may have been reading the resize instructions.
