well, after leaving for the long route around (biscay) and being stuck in cherbourg then alderney then guernsey for weeks on end, we turned around and came down the canals.
was a bit different...to say the least.
Anyways got the mast up at sete , and now heading to barcelona (day sailing) for a well earned holiday heheheheh
then over to mallorca for winter...anyone know any berths for rent there?
whats the best way to get weather forecast over here, been day sailing in mallorca for years but never bothered about weather...now i need it i wish i have found out.
I have a NASA HF3 and navtex engine on board.
navtex gets teh french forecast but nuffin for spain.
Any clues?
Regards
Roy

if you have a laptop and internet access the link below is for grib us follow the instructions on the site, you do need to download the initial software from there onto your laptop unless you have a program that opens grib files.
once you have done that you can download the grib file to a flash drive at any internet cafe and then play it on your laptop
gives 3 hr increments 7 day forcast

Hi Englander,
Probability of work in Mallorca, Palma is good over winter.

Whats the berth situation in Barcelona? Any available in Port Vell, don't fancy olympic, been told its a long way out.
Whats the cost over there.
I know mallorca will cost me a pretty penny.

regards
Roy

Port Vell told us they have had a waiting list for overwintering since April and wouldn't even offer us an overnight berth. Polite but very negative.

Distance out of Barcelona isn't necessarily a problem as the public transport system is very good and very cheap. Olimpico is only a mile or so north of Port Vell but we heard it was noisy in the evenings. Port Forum, the new superyacht marina, didn't respond to our emails or phone calls.

Kalessin is in Marina Badalona, about 5M north of Port Vell. It seems safe and has good Metro and rail access, but it's a bit bleak and I wouldn't want to live there over the winter. Cost about €1700 for 6 months (10-metre boat).

Friends managed to get a place in Real club Maritimo de Barcelona which is next to Port Vell.

Further addition in response to your original question: In the Balearics we found the most reliable Navtex forecast was the French one. Rarely picked up anything Spanish.
