Finally a good weekend?

Am I missing something here? Looks like a big lump of low pressure stuck over Scotland for next Sat/Sun so I guess the associated fronts will bring the same kind of wet weather we've been having over the UK for the past few weeks. Also, the fact that there is high pressure over N Europe would seem to suggest squeezed isobars between the low and the high meaning brisk westerly winds in the Channel
Looks good in the Med though. V tempting

That looks like a promising chart.

@Deleted User, wind speed looks to be quite reasonable Sat and Sun and the temperature looks to be on the up. The med’s been tempting for weeks but this weekend will make everything alright again with UK boating. Have faith /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm off to stock the boat's fridge with beer. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
That'll definitely jinx it.

The weekend wasn't bad, was it?

Only problem was a friend and me spent Friday afternoon and all day Saturday removing our boats from a little beach next to Shaldon Bridge. Thursday night, winds gusting to 70mph (according to the locals) ripped 18 boats from their moorings and apparently 3 drifted out to sea. My friend and I were lucky in that both boats were reported to be drifting towards the bridge and veered off at the last minute to be tossed onto the beach. My little Merry Fisher was high and dry but we managed, with a lot of help, to refloat it Saturday lunchtime. My friends Faeton looked as if a crane would be needed, but at high tide Friday night we were able to refloat it.

What a weekend. The only nice bit was taking them up to Baltic Wharf in Totnes on the Sunday to get quotes for repairs.

Indeed. We headed West - just me and my Dad as crew. Bit lumpy across Poole Bay on Saturday afternoon so we stopped in Swannage for the night. Said 'hi' to GeoffS who was there rafted up with a friend. We were a bit antisocial and after an early dinner went to bed as we'd planned an early start. Geoff - next time, I want a tour of your new boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Left Swannage at 4am (hope we didn't wake anyone!) and had a lovely run across Lyme Bay. Crossed a very large tug/salvage boat around Portland Bill presumably headed to the Napoli. Sea flattened as we headed west and we were in glorious sunshine all day. Stopped at Hope Cove (by Bolt Tail) for some lunch and to watch the GP (and catch up on some zeds).

Left Hope Cove aroud 3, but heard on the VHF about a fishing boat that had lost drive. We were about 3 miles away, but only a few sailing boats around - so we headed over and towed in a 27ft boat that had lost its outdrive - UJ problems he thought. Managed a steady 7knots tow in a horrid beam swell - but got them in to just outside Sutton Dock where another boat came alongside and took them into the lock. We headed into QAB and were just squeezed in (despite booking and confirming several times).

The guy from the fishing boat came round with some wonderful live crab and lobster and the "Chandlers Bar" came up trumps and gave me a slab of butter as we'd just about run out. Ate like kings last night /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Photos and maps to follow when we're back in a few weeks.

Cheers,
Rick
