Fin keel in Thames estuary - Nonsense?

The great thing about sailing on the Crouch is that if you hot something above the water line it doesn't matter....and below the waterline if you hit something it will be soft ie mud.

My fin keeler draws 4'6" and its my first boat. I've made lots of mistakes but going aground seriously isn't one of them. I got stuck once trying to sneak up the Deben too early and had to wait for the tide to catch up but that was no problem. Even going through the Ray Sand channel it's just a matter of careful navigation and working out the tides.

I think you are worrying about something that won't happen - and even if you get stuck it doesn't mean you'll get stuck and dry out.
