What is your favourite feature film in which boating plays a large part? I'm not talking about documentaries - or at least that could be a second category.

This is prompted by the fact that I recently saw Francis Ford Coppola's film "Wind" where you really get the taste of sailing in an America's Cup environment.

Hello Sybarite

Loved that film, story line "challenged" but great film of International 14s and AC boats. I usually watch it in the depths of winter to get a little fix when I cant get out there.

'Dead Calm'?
And I used to like it when that rodent got into his rowing boat in 'Tales Of The Riverbank'.

I'm not sure wether it counts as a docu or a film (maybe a docufilm ;-) )but "Longitude" is one of my favorites.

Science of Sailing

Saw it too. Very good. Followed by "Getting Afloat" on Discovery H&L

It was both actually. There was a documentary on tele a few years back and more recently a movie. The documentary was best, the movie was too difficult to follow particurlarly after about five pints.

Thanks for this list. I have found a movie I seen years ago right at the top , Captains Courageous. Marvelous movie with lots of good sailing action in it and also a scene where one of the characters plays a Hurdy Gurdy with it's magical sound. How do you get to see these Films again as I don't suppose that they are available on Video.??

Ted.

Assuming you are referring to the 1930's version (don't know if there was any other), I believe that it is not yet released on tape or DVD.

That is interesting - is not available in Region 1 (just had a look now on amazon.com USA), and also not here (Region 4) as far as I am aware. I wonder when this coding lark will stop (most DVD players sold here are multi-region capable in any event).

You are blessed and thanks for the link. Will look out for it in my travels or maybe import a Region 2 copy.

Regards

John
