For a few years I've been using the Filmon app on my tablet to watch UK TV in SD when I'm on the boat in Croatia.

Se we arrived a few hours ago and I fired up Filmon to see the BBC News channel to find out what I've missed this weekend ....... and Filmon is now free only for the first 2 minutes. After that you have to take out a subscription for £100 a month or something although you get HD for that rather than SD but I've always been perfectly happy with free SD.

I guess I'll have to start playing around with VPNs now unless someone can suggest another free alternative to Filmon?

So you travel all the way to Croatia and sit there watching UK TV??

We've just been to Spain for a week. FilmOn was €15 for a month, although I need to cancel it now we're home.

We like some UK TV, and not everywhere is as exciting as some places.

Many thanks. I didn't check the monthly subs as I lost heart when "Please Pay" appeared on the screen.

However, the solution was already in my own hands as a year or so ago I had installed Modbro, which is not Google approved and therefore uses an APK, but it didn't seem to offer anything that FilmOn didn't so I never really used it. I've just tried it and seems to be it fine with Sky News and some other news channels, although BBC News also times out.

Same here. Recall FilmOn put on a 2 minutes taster before going to the subscription page last year for a few weeks then dropped it. We only ever watch BBC News & Discovery so not much of a loss.
