Filler

I need to fill lots of gouges and screw holes in mahogany planks on my hull. I have tried epoxy wood filler (Ronseal High Performance) but it is very light in colour compared to varnished mahogany and will not stain. Mixing stain with it stops it setting properly. Any recommendations for a fully waterproof filler that I can stain to match?

I had pretty good results mixing wood dust from the same timber type obtained by sanding, mixed with glue, Regards, Mike.

What filler for wood to perspex do you recommend and how long is it likely to take to go off? It's for a forehatch window so water will sit right on top of it.

SP Systems epoxy resin with microballoons as the filler gives a good approximation to the colour of mahogany. As Mickshep suggests, you can also use mahogany sawdust (which is perfectly acceptable with epoxy, but not so good with something like cascamite). The advantage of microballoons is that the cured result is easy to sand down flat.

[/ QUOTE ]Sikaflex 295 UV - for "organic" windows (for "organic" read plastic) or 296 for glass windows - Both stick like the proverbial to a shovel and remain flexible so movement between the timber frame and the perspex should not be a problem. Epoxy and the like are not "elastic" enough to cope with the relative movements between the frame and the glass/perspex.
