Having sanded down the anti foul on Sunday I noticed a couple of areas about the size of old pennys where I could see the hull fibres. So off to the chandlers for some filler, where I was offered some International Product for the princely sum of £40. I explained the problem in low dulcet tones and suggested that forty quid for twopennuth of filler was a bit strong. They were unable to offer me a cheaper option though I did have a further comment and the genleman concerned now seems to be sitting less comfotably than previous.

Any help from Scuttlebutters would be greatly appreciated by my pocket.

Kim,

You say that you can see the hull fibres? This would mean that you have sanded through antifoul and the gel coat! Did you use a machine and if so what kind of machine and sanding material? Did your have osmosis blisters that may have been raised prominently to the sander?
For H&S reasons it's not a good idea to sand down antifouling but there's even more reason why you shouldn't as the consequences can be dire as it appears to be with your hull.
The cheapest and most effective way of removing AF is to use an appropriate scraper.
I feel that for you to repair the damage properly it may cost you a lot more than the £40 in the chandlery.

Regards.

Peter.
