I occasionally look into Johnston's chandlery in Lamlash, often for a browse of his 2nd hand books - rather than hardware.
Last week I found a good one :)
"Fast & Bonnie" A history of William Fife & Sons Yacht builders by May Fife McCallum.
A great tale of 120 years of boat building. My G-G grandfather had his last sailing trader built by Fife's, when the yard's bread and butter was supplying local working sail rather than just building yachts to suit the tastes of Victorian magnates. His boat worked for 72 years, before becoming redundant due to steam taking over. She was abandoned over 100 years ago, but I know where her keel lies, half buried in the mud.
A few of Fife's more charismatic builds survived rather better..:)

If you can find a copy...read it!
