Anchor broke loose.....
When?......On a blustery sail with a confused big sea during one of my day sails on my return to the Solent from the Western Isles this summer.
After breaking loose the sharp end of the Rocna managed to dig many times deep through the gel and into the strand mat over an area possibly 150-300mm (6"-1foot) diameter, with a few smaller pecks in the gel over a wider area.
ADVICE PLEASE, Should I wash out the effected areas with fresh water to get rid of the salt or perhaps instead apply plenty of Acetone before thoroughly drying with fan heater in a makeshift tent and then building up with epoxy filler before adding a top final surface.
I'm considering a 'bash plate' made from s.s. to cover the areas below the roller and will ask for advice on this in a seperate posting, see http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337000 so I'm possibly not concerned so much for the gel coat to be made good in the main area but will need to tidy up the minor 'pecks' that the anchor made.
p.s. The Rocna performed superbly throughout the 5 month voyage and I think I've sussed a way to stow it safely in future, although using it and hauling it into place on the roller with a bobstay that goes up to the bowsprit is always a problem with any anchor.
thanks
