Re: Few Pics of a \'Gusta 72

No all internal shots of the same boat Look closely.

The wheel is set very low too... and the Bow thruster on that particular vessel is supposed to be knee opperated.

The Simrad looking kit is the computerised control system. Does lighting, entertainmemt, aircon, ships monitors, engine control functions etc etc.

I quite like the plastic seating!!

That\'s not a mangusta 72

Nice pix Derf, where were they taken, dont recognise the harbour? But that aint a 72! The external shot at least is of a 108. Distinguished by the wide quarter pods with big hatch lid, jetski and crane inside each one. The boat moored immediately to her right is a Mangusta 92

The pics show why if you ever get one of these you have to buy new. The interior is semi custom, so owners choose hideous gold taps and stuff, ugh!

Here's a 108 in build at Overmarine

Is it a boat show? Did you go on the Windy 58 Zephyros (I think) on the other side, off the port bow of the 108? What was it like? I've alsways wanted to look over one of those, they're supposed to be very well screwed together

Re: That\'s not a mangusta 72

Was thinking it looked a bit big for a 72.

Nice pics although none of the internal shots are screaming "drop-dead gorgeous and well worth x millions of quids" that it no doubt costs. Maybe it's all down to customer specification as you say.

I must confess I have never seen a 'gusta. I do believe that they are superb though and hope they'll be at the Palma show.

Re: That\'s not a mangusta 72

Many of the interiors -Gusta and Leopard- are a bit tasteless. There are a few - but very few - done in cool matt varnished wenge, walnut, cherry and stuff, along the lines of an Azimut 86s saloon say, but many of them are just footballers wives type cack. Some are much worse than these pictures. Like a 1960s stereogram turned inside out, tcm once (accurately) called them

But none of this is the fault of the builder, just the (first) owners. You can have one done drop dead gorgeous if you want. It's a fixed price, and you just choose your veneers, fabrics, fittings, electronics, etc. TCM's was custom, in nice matt varnished sycamore with silver taps, frexample

Re: That\'s not a mangusta 72

I was in St. Tropez last Friday and have some external shots of a Mangusta 108 (SWMBO was particularly struck with the alternating black and red scatter cushions) and also a Mangusta 130. If anyone can tell me how to attach pics I will put them on here.

72 it sure is.

The interior shots are all of a 72. You are correct tho jfm, the exterior shot is of a 108 and a 92 to starboard. Couldn't get an exterior shot of the 72 as a walkway and flag obsured picture.

I have now seen 4 different 72's and they have varied from the truely hideous(but immensely expensive custom interior) to the one above which the owner had with resale in mind hence not so bad.

Pics were taken in Genoa.

I saw the Zephros 58 at Dussledorf show last year and it is very very well put together, although the aft cabin access does take a little getting used to as it is so unsual. IMHO I think it is pitched at the wrong end of the price scale.. very expensive for a sub 60' sports cruiser.

Fixed Price.

Magnum, the price for a Gusta is fixed, and it doesn't matter if you opt for 300hp or the biggest engine option.. surface drives or jets

So what new buyers specify tends tot be the most expensive they can get, even if it is a little tacky..... although I would stop short of the footballers wives analogy! Didn't think they had that much taste to even look at a 'Gusta.

The interior layout can be semi custom and the although not the placement of bulkheads.

These are truely fabulous boats and although from the Rodriguez stable as Leopard, I think thay are a better put together boat. But its personal choice in the end.

No purple and Leapord skin for me!

Re: Fixed Price.

Free specification choice and semi-customisation sounds great. But is it really worth that much more than mainstream models? Like I've said I haven't seen one in the flesh but hope to soon. It's just that from some owner's reports all that extra dosh doesn't seem to buy you any extra reliability. What's the price difference between a Gusta and Predator 72?

Re: Fixed Price.

New price Gusta 72 ~$4.5

New price Pred 72 ~$2.5

But that like asking why you spent 150k on a 575 or a Murcielago. They're not that much better than mainstream cars are they.

Its about all of the intangible things... and you pay for exclusivity knowing that no 2 will be the same.

Re: Fixed Price.

Hmm. Not really a fair comparison.

The 'rari or murci is very exotic and stands out a mile when compared to say a Jag XKR. Performance and handling is in a different league too.

But stick a Predator and a Gusta next to eachother and externally at least they aren't worlds apart. Both stunning looking boats. Can't speak for the inside.

Performance-wise there's nothing in it - Gusta 39 knots, Predator 38 knots. So where exactly does that $2M go?

Re: Fixed Price.

Sorry Magnum, I've go to disagree.. put a Mangusta next to a Predator and they are worlds apart.

The extra 2 mil buys, a far superior engineered and built vessel, better fit and finish, semi customisatoin and exclusitivity! As for comparing top speed.. at that end of the market that's vulgar dear boy!

As for the 'rari and 'murci.. there are faster, better handling, better finished and cheaper cars out there!

Re: Fixed Price.

You brought up the 'rari and Murci, not me! As a recent owner, would reluctantly agree on the 575 though.

All I can say is the Gusta must be some piece of kit. Can't wait to have a butchers at one.

As for speed being vulgar, if I had some super fast tri-engined waterjet equipped rocket ship capable of doing 50 knots, I'd be vulgar fairly often /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Fixed Price. (almost)

The price is fixed as far as gizmos and furnishing etc is concerned, but they do charge differnet prices for differnet engines. The 108 and 105 frexample vary from 2x MTU diesel driving Arnesons, to 2x lycoming gas turbines driving KaMeWas, and I think they have done a 2x diesel plus 1x centre turbine on both the 105 and 108 in the past. There's a different fixed price for each of those motors and drive combos.
