Fenders and inflation

Evening all. Polyform F3 fenders are driving me nuts. I'm trying to re-inflate three. The adaptors that came with the boat are all unsuitable though are fine for others on board. So after watching the vids on youtube I bought a polyform adapter. Hopeless! It doesn't fit deep enough, tight or make a seal, so as I pump the air leaks away, not entering the fender. Am I missing something? Please, any ideas?

Looking at some of the videos, isn't there some sort of screw or bung that unscrews with a screwdriver. Also some sort of compresser is always useful. Agree they can be a pain though.

Yep one must screw out the valve cover then insert the adapter. Except getting the adapter in as far as it goes does not seal it and the air escapes. :-(
