Hi,

Any suggestions for the best fendering or rubbing strip to put around a fibreglass dinghy? Something non-marking, and preferably without breaking the bank. The dinghy has a sort of horizontal lip at the gunwale, with black rubbery material that leaves marks on the hull.

Hi. I posted the same question a few months ago and was recommended www.sealsplus.co.uk. However, I came across in my local chandler some thick 3 strand rope, which i have fixed around the dinghy with cable ties threaded between the strands. It works, albeit I have fixed it a bit low on the dinghy and may need to put an extra piece round on top of the first one.

Cheaper and better looking than rubber strip, imho.

Cheap and cheerful but work OK are the waterpipe foam insulation pieces. They are already cut to fit round the pipe and slip over an edge easily. Get them from B&Q or similar. Fixed ours with cable ties and they worked well. Easy to replace in case of damage but found ours (on an aluminium tender) to be hardwearing.

I cut the rubbing strake from an old airless bag job, the fixing screws are all on the lower flange, no marks, worth thinking about. If you are fussy about looke dont go down this route, has the advantage that nobody looks twice.
