Fender Sock Material

The old fender socks were getting a bit 'orrible so they're now residing in the bin. Just trying to find the material that comes in a length that I can DIY cut to size and slip on to my freshly washed fenders?

Sure there was a guy on the forum at one point selling them?

Looking for navy blue or black.

Why anyone uses fender socks amazes me, there’s nothing more hideous and have seen the damage caused by them to the gel coat. I tend to buy a new set of fenders every couple of years to keep them looking good.
 
Have not noticed any damage - mind they are fitted on the rub rail so not really in contact with the hull .

Have a new embroided set on the way as lost one on the port side .
In the Med it either rains very hard in the winter or everything gets a good hose / anti salt spray wash down after a run out .
Guess it’s the company one keeps :)

ive used them 15++ years with zero damage. I dont get the whole damage thing. 95% of boats where I am use them and all the crewed big yachts use them, with no damage.
As for op, Pete sells the long tube of cloth and m2mfenders.eu sell the ready made socks.
 
Also in the Med I suspect more attention to surface finish from hull wax / polish etc .
More a UV Protection issue but you don,t see fender damage .Accept the theory along the lines the socks potentially hold abrasive dirt and grim —- but it’s does not seem to pan out in practice in my experience.
Also they look better than stained ,dirty bare plastic , I know there are fender cleaners out there but other than black folks don,t clean them and they look a sight grubby fenders .

I'd be interested to know what you find so ugly and also what damage fender socks have caused? I've sold many hundreds of packs of material and only ever had one request for a refund (and that was because they thought the material would be towelling).

The damage I have seen is on blue hull, the material was abrading the hull, you could see where each fender was hanging. I guess it’s a preference thing but I prefer to see a nice clean fender with no need to keep it covered, my best mate loves fender socks and I see him taking off at end of each season then washing and refitting again in spring, too much messing about for me.
I guess like a lot of things they have their uses for some but not for everyone.

I used to own a blue hulled boat, and I found that fenders without socks abraded the hull worse than those with. The problem I found with plain fenders was trying to keep them clean, hence I used socks which I could wash whenever needed.
