Few things increase the financial value of a boat.

Over some years, the best you can hope for is a break-even.
And even those are extremely rare.

To be fair if they started on Sailing Anarchy they probably gave up on internet forums for a source of advice!

Probably. The issue is compromises. I like sailing and traditional boats so the contessa is bloomin lovely (just would be better if she was a twister or a 32). My children (aged 4 and 1) and wife will come sailing, but not on a heeling, cramped boat and certainly not something that cant dry out on a sandy beach. So the Catalac serves a purpose - and with a new set of sails she goes ok. If there was a middle ground that ticked all the boxes I would be all over it. The closest I can see is a bav 32 or one of the American hunter boats and I don't think it would make me nor the family happy for our different use cases. Maybe when the kids get a bit older the needs will change a bit. Also, I DID try and sell the contessa despite my misgivings about losing her and the experience was so foul I gave up as mentioned.
