Hello, I'm researching transporting my 1974 Westerly Berwick to Spain. I'm after any advice/thoughts as there are multiple options to do it.
Restraints are
a) Limited budget
b) Limited time
Options
1) Transport by road.
2) Professional yacht delivery firm.
It's estimated 16 - 20 day voyage and I could not get all the time off in one go. And I don't have the skills/experience to Captain.
3) French canals - take too long.
The Westerly is 1974 model.
It's a risk reward thing.

I'd like to do a part passage then fly home from somewhere.

Anyhoo I'd be interested in anyone having had the same interesting problem
John

Hi John, welcome along. I think you’ve identified the possible options. The issue I see with this I plan is that these delivery options could amount to more than the boat is worth, and when you get the boat there you’ll also discoverer it’s very unsuitable for Med use. I’d recommend you sell the Berwick and buy something in the Med, already EU-VAT paid to avoid that hassle. Saves the significant cost of the transport which you can add to the selling price of the Berwick and get a better and more suitable boat.

Yes I was afraid that that could be the best option. Just spent a small fortune getting a rewire. Hmmm no plan survives first contact. I'll look into the options.

It’s basically time and money …..set off use the time available moor up in a marina …go home…….repeat till you reach Cartagena….WHERE HOT and windless days are not un common…….or stop in Galicia for a year exploring the rias🙂…..pleanty of airports and flights back

16-20 days would be easy depending where you start from. I can make the Azores from Plymouth in 14 days in a 25 feet boat. I have got to Madeira (actualy Porto Santo) before from Southern Ireland in 14 days.

I'm not sure the Orcas are quite the problem people like to make out. I have encountered pods of Orcas in the open ocean and they have ignored me completely unlike an amorous humpback which once spent 3 hours making overtures to my boat and singing softly to me. I would suggest you DON"T read 'Survive the Savage Sea' before you set out.

With the right wind, ie our current NE, from teh East Coast you should make it easily in 21 days to Cartegena.
