We sailed home yesterday from Dover and having had 65m under the keel for times over the last 4 wks I had forgotten what is was like to skim the approach to Harwich and Felixstowe. Foulgers Gat was positively exhilarating as we had a buzz by from a pod of Dolphin. Went across the Sunk for the first time with 2.7m below the keel which set us up nicely for a run into the final approach 1hr before LW.
We have had an amazing summer sail venturing further West and South than before. Sea cliffs huge tidal races but what struck me most was how beautiful the East Coast rivers are and as they are our local waters how lucky are we!
Agree with benw.
When we came home after our trip it was so lovely to sail back into our ditch... ( the Crouch)
In typica English fashion, it was a lovely fry day until we passed Canuden, then the heavens opened up to wash all that nasty salt off the decks for us.
Even though we were very wet, it was lovelyto be home. Even now the slence is beatiful.
My depth sounder must be an East Coast model - in more than 20metres the decimal point moves so it shows I'm only sailing in 2 metres! Makes me feel more at home.
