Just collected a replacement anode for my Type A Featherstream. Redesigned to increase the "meat" around the screw holes. Same bulk of zinc. Photo of comparison with a worn old style. As you can see the bulk of the old style is still there but gone around one of the screw holes. The new one will hopefully be better.

While I agree that the new design is better with regard to the screw holes, I have always painted the screw head and the portion of the screw which lies in the anode with a few coats of car touch-up paint. This reduces the electrical continuity between the screws and the anode, preventing the localised corrosion of the anode which you have experienced, without affecting the contact between the propeller boss and the anode.

+1 yep, done this with all my anodes. I use whatever nail varnish my daughter isn’t in love with today
 
I did the same last time but not seen whether it is effective. Have also fitted a hull anode so I hope the cone anode will still be in good shape

My Bruntons anode comes with nylon set screws, which solve that particular problem. Oddly, anodes for some other models come with stainless screws.
Ah, thanks Vyv, that answers my thoughts about whether you could use nylon screws with the Featherstream, which seems like the answer to the anode wear problem :)
 
I put a dab of metal primer on the anode area under and around the screw heads. Plus I use Nord-Lock washers under screws. Which are very useful if divers are installing a replacement anode.
