Hi,

I have just had my battery charger replaced, because it wasn't working and I needed a quick fix - and marine engineers don't fix battery chargers, just freplace them!

So I now have the old one, which although it doesn't work (it keeps blows the input fuse as soon as switched on), sure it must still be of value to someone who could repair and either re-use or resell. Anyone know what I could do with this to recover some of the cost of the replacement?...

It's a Newmar 'Phase Three' three stage smart charger and DC power supply. New at February 2009 (i.e. outside of original 2 year warranty!).

A common cause of this is a component on the circuit board called a varister. It is supposed
To protect the equipment from over voltage but if subjucted to a large voltage spike it can cause a direct short between live and neutral. I have replaced thease on many aircon circuitboards. Less than 1€ for the component but about 270€ for a new pcb.

Take it to a electronics repair place if you can find one and they may be able to repair it. Not sure how much you could sell it for but not a bad spare to keep onboard.
