Fat bald due on a jetski. Was he too close?

We get loads of them buzzing all round in the Torbay area. As has been said, they use the wake to get a ramp to jump off. Good entertainment. We have certainly had them closer than 10m and they only stay 1-2 mins, do some jumps then get bored and go elsewhere. Never really caused me a prob.

Well very close jfm, but by your own high standards, that has to count as only half marks. We're actually passing between the northernmost island and the mainland on the way to Cannes. Tut tut ....

ooohhhh!!

Tut Tut .... in which case you are undoubtedly exceeding the speed limit and he (possibly, as I can not tell exactly where) shouldnt be there :-)

Mind you no excuses for JFM!

We used to get them jumping the wake off the rather large commercial boat I used to crew, Volvo pentas the size of the average garden shed running down vertical legs to (rather large) open props. (props a few feet astern of the stern) Was always waiting for the day the sea turned red...

I don't care how good they thought they were, they had no idea what was just under the water and how close some of them came...

There's a speed limit ??!! The channel must be a mile or so wide, so not immediately obvious there would be a speed limit, although it is very shallow. I hasten to add that i've always slowed right down passing through this area as there are always boats anchored, but I thought I was just being considerate ...

Yep ... although you would never believe it !!

It's 5 knots around the island themselves and 10 (???? - iirc) where I THINK you are there in the channel between Rade/Palm Beach and St Marguerite . Between the Islands is actually 3 for the most part ( with exception of centre of the channel which is 5). The speed limits extend far into the bay of Cannes. Ill have a look online and see if I can pm it to you .. it will surprise you how extensive the limits are in that area, especially as few seem to know about let alone obey them!

Ah same bloke (sans wet suit) came into Newtown Creek on Sunday - gruesome sight; had a beer or whatever alongside an another vistors sports boat and suited up and departed about an hour later - he gets about then.

On the safety issue - if you thought he was too close then yes he was as he was causing you concern.

Hmmm that'll explain why my missus was given dirty looks by a few kite surfers when she was at the helm doing 40 knots full chat through there then :D

... Who said Mrs Hooligan ?
PS .. Is your Avatar representative of the fact that your boat is permanently on the hard for repairs ?

LOL, :D It is a very exclusive hard standing feature only provided by volvo for D4 and 6 owners and they 'guarantee' that your bilges remain dry at all times, unless you haven't had the raw water re-call warranty up grade

Oops, sorry I got your destination a bit wrong Nick. See your point! But as said there's definitely a speed limit there, off Palm Beach. Tis on the French charts I think, or the Livre De Bord. I probably got the skinny dipping bit right though, so presumably that's what the half marks were for?

EME, nice avatar. You owe me beer as a royalty for that picture :-)
