Fastnet 1979. - is there full length feature or T.V. film?

The book "Fastnet Force 10" by John Rousmaniere is worth reading. He is an American who sailed through it all relatively unscathed. I came to this book after reading two others which left unanswered the fundamental question of what actually happened. Rousmaniere gives his analysis and it changed my understanding of, and attitude to, the sea.

It was a particularly poignant event for Guernsey folk as we lost our most senior and popular politician, Peter Dorey, when the steering pedestal he was clipped onto was ripped off by a wave while the rest of the crew including his son were under orders to stay below.

It has some pretty vivid memories for me too - I was learning to sail on a London reservoir around the time of the race, and happened to be on a ferry from Holyhead to Dun Laoire on the night of the storm. Still remember wondering how sailing boats would cope with the vast waves and being unable to breath out when facing into the wind. Broken yachts were coming in for days even as far north as Dublin.

My sailing instructor went on the race and didn't come back.

could anyone be kind to give a link about that !:)

Anyone talking with Crusader Sails might like to ask Paul Lees, he was there on his then boat Pinball Wizard. I had one of Pinballs spinnakers way back for my then Liz 30, it survived the 1979 Fastnet (maybe didn't come out of the bag!) but not a local club race and a measly F6 with me and #1 son. I thought Paul a bit unkind when he said he couldn't put all the pieces together again..
