Anyone else doing the race?

If so be nice to meet for a beer at QAB and put some faces to the names.

Especially the one at the far end. Our cruising destination one year was to be the most southerly pub in Ireland, on Clear Island about 5 miles from Fastnet Rock. On the day we arrived it was very warm and two of the party pushed on ahead in their efforts to get the first drink at our destination. As they entered the pub the landlord exclaimed "By God, gents, you look hot. Here, have a whiskey while you're deciding what to drink!" What a country!

Technically I dont believe that it is a requirement to leave by the Needles - but it would have to be truly remarkable set of conditions to justify sailing the long way round the Island ...

per RORC

START: Sunday 10th August, from RYS Cowes, to the West First Warning Signal 0950

HIGH WATER: Portsmouth 1047 4.3m

COURSE: Cowes - Fastnet Rock - Plymouth

FINISH: At Plymouth Breakwater

No - couldnt fit in around SWMBO's ilness - but I'm already planning for 05!

Touch irritated, as we had done all the qualifying distances last year, with a view to this years race, but what must be, must be.

With some luck next years boat will be a factor of two faster, so although it will be truly uncomfortable, it should at least be quicker. I've also got my eyes on the Santander, and I've got one crewmember trying to persuade me to go round Britain....
