Right, the arrival 10 days ago of my little baby means that my huslter is now not a great family choice. What I really want to do is to change for a baby boat that I can day sail on with the possibility of overnighting...

Best criteria

1) Fast and foolish...? assymetric
2) sleeps 3 or more
3) Seperate head (OK OK but the verl 600 seems to manage
4) Tows behind a passatt
5) Takes the ground
6) 22' max 18 min
10) 10K max

pie in the sky??

Congratulations on the new crew member.
Why is a Hustler not a good boat for family sailing?
When our 1st sprog arrived we had an old wooden 18ft boat. A boat like yours would have seemed like heaven!

We had an Evolution 22 some years ago. No separate heads, but I think it would tick all the other boxes. Won't do the Passat's clutch much good if you find a steep slipway, mind!

I personally like the design and ethos of Swallow Yachts range of boats. The Baycruiser range would fit in most depts except price unfortunately.

Ben First 210 or 211 or 21.7?
If within price range.....
Does it take the ground? Stub keel needs legs?

Design displacement approx 1.2 tonnes
Aged displacement due about 1.3-1.4 tonnes due to water soak up
Actual fully loaded displacement about 1.7 tonnes probably typical.
trailer 0.5 tonnes

Total towing load about 2 to 2.2 tonnes

With a vehicle rated at 1.7

Dont get on any slippery steep slipways then:D

If you stick with passat you will need to limit choice to the smaller end or compromise to water ballasted.

Wont sail like the twister! But meets your specification

Not water ballasted and a better sailer but small.....

Polish lake boat possibility?

It's gained half a tonne! That's quite a large percentage of a towing limit of 1.7T. A passat is on the small side for towing anything big - whatever he chooses he'll have to be very careful about what's in the boat and how he loads it.
If you work on keeping it empty and the trailer comes in at under 0.5T then it would be just OK. I thought the design displacement was less than that too.
For something smaller there are the Micro 18s like the Rob Humphreys designed Gem. Be very cosy with 4 though...

mainly because I expect I'm going to be sailing day sails alot from now on and want something I can affort to keep in a marina!

We had a 26' stella when we had our first baby.... first year sailing, no problem. Sometimes stayed in the river but did a fair few weekend trips. When second child came along we bought a bigger boat. We can just about manage a short sail with 2 on board ourselves but to go further we tend to take crew along so therefor the bigger boat is a godsend. Also think about overnighting and where everybody sleeps... you really want a seperate cabin for the kids otherwise evenings on board will be in the cockpit whilst kids sleep below. PM me if you want.
