Zoom in/out at will, pinpoint various locations and read wind speed, overlay temperature etc.

No idea how accurate it is but I'll try and validate it over the next few months.

Way better than that is the MeteoEarth app for Mac. Simply awesome - it is like Google Earth with real time satellite imagery and ECMWF gribs (cloud, winds, precipitation) superimposed over it. You can also pay an £3.49 per year to have the full five day grib forecasts, and use a slider to see how weather systems will develop over the next five days. I use it now for my prime weather resource for sailing and also for my work (pilot). There is also an iPad app which is also very good but not quite so stunning as the Mac app.
