Hi everyone. Not been around for quite a while. SWMBO expecting baby end of September so major re-assesment of priorities, I,ve sold Fosca and bought a tired Shipman 28, She's G.R.P so there should be a little less maintenance. She is fitted with a Farryman diesel engine with a hydraulic drive to the prop. The engine runs but there is oil in the bilge so an overhaul is a priority. It's a system about which I know practically nothing. Has anyone out there experience of this class of yacht, this engine installation or better still any paperwork/workshop manuals etc relating to the engine/drive? Although very run down the boat is apparently solid with a decent hull and rig and is worth putting a little effort into. Cheers in advance. Mike.

Hi Mickshep,
I had one as my second and probably favourite boat to date. Lovely pretty Olle Enderlein designed cruiser racer built in Limerick. Sometimes described as the poor mans Contessa.
I have everything you ask for and more,
drop me a pm with your address and I'll post copies of the engine and gearbox manual plus a copy of the original sales brochure.
Cheers
Homa

Hi Mike

Yesterday I received an email from someone in Hartlepool wanting info on a Shipman 28 that he owns (cos I am listed in various places as a Shipman28 contact in the UK). Wants to look into replacing the engine. Are you in partnership with someone else or is this a coincidence.

We replaced our Farymann 12hp with a Beta a few years back on our Shipman. Change was not too difficult as Beta did the mounting of the hydraulic pump onto the engine etc.

We passed our Farymann on to another forumite. Not sure what/if anything he did with it.

Spares are a nightmare. My local chandler (MEC - 0118 940 1141) did buy up all the service stock from the previous UK agents. Not sure if he still deals in these but worth giving him a try.

While our engine itself seemed to plod along happily, it was the bits hanging off it that gave us grey hairs. Starter, Alternator and engine mounts. The Hydraulics were fine too as long as you kept on top of any of the leaks and kept the pipes in good order.

Some other people I found very helpful were ARS (01508 520 555) who knew the "HydroMarine system" very well. Not too much help on the engine but well worth keeping their number as they gave us loads of advice on the hydraulics.

Would be happy to share any other info if you have more questions.

Cheers

Wayne

Hi,

I don't know any other way of contacting you, however you posted a message in 2003 regarding a set of mouldings for a STAG 28. Do you remember where you saw them as I think I may have the yacht in question and I would like to gte in touch with the boat builder for some advice. She has never, and I mean never, been in the water. I bought her through ebay last year from a marina in Preston as an abandoned project. Your help would be most appreciated. My e-mail address is ken@kdmacbrayne.plus.com.

Regards,
