Rob, I've sent you txt messages, PM'S and tried to get a response directly in the thread http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262315 that you posted selling your dingy and outboard for which we had a deal when we spoke at the time with me offering the asking price.. I see you were online last night too... not stalking you but it's been a week since you said you were coming down to meet me on route to London and then you've ignored me since.. if you've decided not to sell mate, fair enough, but please have the decency to let me know so I can look elsewhere. thanks Gary

I feel your frustration and want to add a bit.
Mel and I are going cruising in a couple of months and we have been using the site for selling off a few unwanted items and picking up a few bargains.
Mostly, I love it. Great people, doing deals on a promise or handshake......it's how it should be on a small community site.
But
Why then do people put stuff up for sale and then become uncontactable when a sail is agreed or why say you are going to buy something and then just not bother turning up to collect or getting in contact?
Both have happened to me in the last couple of months.
It’s a real pain, causes us problems with so little time left and really spoils the site.

I feel better for that!!!
Nothing like a rant.

Nick

I work in a hospital and it the last 6 days i have worked over 60 hours without my traveling time to and from.

I'm really sorry i cant spend more time on here but work and family life get in the way. I was supposed to bring it on friday the 11th and i apologise that i couldn't.

It is my day off tomorrow friday the 18th and was was gong to do my best to sort out these things (I have to post a grab bag too)

But since reading your post i have decided it would be far more hassle that the £250 is worth to sell you the boat.
Good luck in your search

Fair enough - it is understandable that you've been a little busy .. but communicating that to the buyer would've helped somewhat - if you had a txt from him then it doesn't take 2 minutes to say you're inundated and will deal with it later - he'd understand ..

oGaryo's post was (IMHO) quite fair - he didn't know if you were getting his txts or reading the PM's - some people do miss them ... so not selling him the goods now is a bit spiteful ..

As for the others "name and shame" calling - that is not on at this stage .. it's only been a week ...

I suggest you contact oGaryo privately ... ;)

I've both bought, from, sold to and exchanged stuff with Rob who is an all round good bloke! Problem seems to me that too many on here have a low level of tolerance to other peoples genuine situations, I know where Rob works and it's a very stressful workplace. "Name and Shame" - listen to yourselves! Rob went incommunicado for a few days due to pressure of work, he hasn't stolen the Crown Jewels, what an overreaction, you must all be soooooo bored.

I wouldn't complete the transaction now - yes, it might be considered spiteful but if it gives him satisfaction and a warm glow, then why not?

Cheers, Brian.

I've also bought from Robbie. No problems, better than described and even the odd freebie.
At times I couldn't get to a PC to receive or respond to his PMs for days . Just chilled and it all worked out OK.

+1 - book arrived promptly and in good nick - just what you want.

Seems to me he's been busy enough posting things as well as job/family...

Have to say that I agree. There are unavoidable and unforseen circumstances that prevent someone from keeping to an agreement and this is generally understood and accepted. It's when there's no communication that things get frustrating as you don't know if the seller's incapacitated, incarcerated or just illegitimate.

If you agree a sale with someone, the buyer has a reasonable expectation that something should happen and the item/service will be actioned within a short number of days (unless otherwise agreed). Like others have said, all this frustation is avoided by some communication from the seller - text, PM, call, carrier pigeon - whatever, updating the position. Most will understand and be accepting of delays without an issue. Its the not knowing that the hacks us off.

Robbie, we spoke, we agreed a date and time to meet up.. something came up and you took a rain check.. I found this out after texting you close to the day we were supposed to meet up.. I've text you several times after asking for an update, sent you a pm and posted in the thread.. All very polite and even going to the extent of asking if you're ok.. Not once in that time have you replied and you were online both after the pm was sent and also the night before I sent it, hence why I thought I'd try that route in case you had a mobile phone issue. In short, you had enough time to go on the forum but not enough to reply to me, strange that:confused:

Please do keep your dingy, I can make do without it but as said, your final response in withdrawing the sale is uncalled for.. after all, the only thing I've done is ask you to do the decent thing to reply to one of my messages and let me know what's happening with the sale.

It'd be interesting to see who you now sell the dingy to if I could muster up the interest to be interested  It's a very good price and I wouldn't be surprised if you'd sell it for more than £250 locally:eek:

I've had the same experience as the OP with a different seller.

Agreed to buy something. All nice and friendly ... then silence.

Checked and saw that the seller was still viewing the forum so sent pm's ... no reply.

Got frustrated and sent an '' if you can't be bothered why advertise it '' pm only to be answered with a tirade of abuse re deaths in family, hoards of locusts ... the lot.

He seemed to miss the point already made ... if you've time to log on here surely you have time to post '' sorry ... busy ... will be in touch''

Five seconds? Ten??

I've had a similar experience with a different seller as the OP. Initially received pms as to why item not sent, plausible reasons and my response was sympathetic and relaxed. Have followed up with pms since and received no response at all even though he is a regular contributor to the forum and has posted many times since including today. If the item is no longer available I would be grateful for the info. Better than being ignored.

Have been tempted to name and shame but now I've had my rant he's safe for a bit longer at least.

Gets my goat.
