It was time for Moonshine's 7 year survey for our insurance company, and as we had been wintering in Moana in the Ria de Vigo, the Marina Davila just across the Ria, with their 70 ton hoist seemed to fit the bill and the pocket. What a fantastic choice we made. The service and professionalism we received was second to none. We had done a deal to be lifted out, scrubbed off, Moonshine to be put in a cradle for 10 days on the hard (where we would be allowed to stay aboard) and lifted back in at a very competitive rate. Martin Evans, our surveyor who we have used for the last 3 boats over 25 years, flew over from Essex to do the survey. The only major thing to come to light was a repair to the bottom of Moonshine's keel. We enquired to Carlos, the director at Davila, whether they could undertake a repair to a ferro cement boat. The repair was completed within 2 days by Jorge and Fran to a higher standard and spec than even Martin had stipulated. We cannot praise all the staff and workers at the Marina Davila highly enough and can thoroughly recommend the yard, where you are allowed to work on your own boats. Do not be put off by reports that it is a long walk into Vigo, as there is everything you could possibly want at Bouzas, including restaurants, supermarkets, an extensive chandlery and a market on Sundays, all within 15 minutes walk of the marina.

+1 We've had our boat there for last 2 winters and always found the service excellent. We do know of one person who had problems with work being done by a contractor (not a marina employee). Their boat was in the yard longer than expected and also needed an extra lift when the problem wasn't cured. Carlos wouldn't accept payment for the extra lift or the extended stay. Another contractor was brought in and the work finished promptly at a lower cost. I think that the first contractor only got a partial payment and so final bill was pretty much as expected. I don't have all the details but do know that Carlos was extremely helpful and went out of his way to sort things out.

We've found all the staff to be helpful and friendly, as a bonus most speak good English. Roberto is always especially cheerful and helpful (I hope that his knee op. went well).

It is a bit of a hike to Vigo but we usually just cycle to Bouzas or the huge Al Campo supermarket further up the hill. The chandlery in Bouzas looks like a tiny shop but turns into a labyrinth of passages when you venture inside.

I do find it useful to a local hire car for 3 days at start of the season to stock up with beer, wine and other heavy items. I'm actually going to be arriving on Tuesday so hope the weather improves slightly.
