Blue Moonlight and my old tub had a sail in company last week .... and to be honest it was really good ....

So a great big thanks to Karly, Jimbuoy and Steve for a great time ...

Karl was shown the advantage of a big engine when needed ... and he in turn proved that my tub CAN sail when well handled ...

Here we have display showing my old tub hitting 6kts under sail with engine only on tickover charging batt's more than anything >>>

There\'s always one who want\'s to spoil it ...

There is me all happy and chuffed about my really great weeks sailing ...

Is it some sort of "they've had a great time - I'm going to have a pick at it ??"

TK - gis'a break will yer - leave it out - let me wallow in satisfaction that I wanted to share a great sail with all those poor sould who are still antifouling and getting last minutew jobs done before lift-in !!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

(Oh and current was about 1kt with me on a west flow thru solent and engine was on basically to charge batt's so added very little to overall speed ... this info for the purists like TK who like to have all data presented .... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Re: There\'s always one who want\'s to spoil it ...

I would have lied and claimed we had a knot or two of tide against us /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifglad you had a good time any beer left in Solent pubs now?

We relaunched Vega last week only managed an afternoon sail so far ,hoping to get away next week.

[/ QUOTE ] How true, except we can't do the antifoul unless it stops raining.

Re: There\'s always one who want\'s to spoil it ...

Hope it's as good next week as setting off for first weeks sail of the season from Southampton tomorrow (taking some winter woollies though!).

Yes, they do look relieved to be tied-up safely. Especially the chap on the left

Re: There\'s always one who want\'s to spoil it ...

Cmon Nigel, we were sailing at a max 5.3 kts through the water..... And we didnt have the engine on. Tickover on your beast of an engine gives you about 2 por 3 knots as you keep telling us! I thought SuperAnne was sailing great until I saw the engine was on the whole time with F4/5 up the chuff!! How do you know there was only a knot of tide, your log dont work, we were getting 2 to 3 kts of tide which came from the good passage planning. Had agreat time and cant wait til next time. Cheers

Blimey she looks good!!

Hi Steve,

Must say your sail handling skills make Bluey look good.

I have so much more to learn.... but I do now know about asking the skipper of a boat along side me to keep his mast out of alignment with mine /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good time had by all tho.

Jim

Re: The name\'s Bond.. Brooke Bond ...(I\'ll answer var. posts here)

No problem ...... I'm laughing !!!!

Sensitive ?? No - read it again and you'll notice the smileys indicating differently !!
I was just piqued at being picked up a small "writers licence" of keeping the 1kt in pocket !!!

The jumper ?? Good in'it !! I've got a couple like that ... Instantly recognisable !!! Available at all good British Home Stores outlets .....

The combined anchoring was really a daft idea ...

a) Both boats had items on adjoining rails that meant moving fore or aft was inadvisable,
b) anchoring was too far off-shore not affording any wind-break from the shoreline / trees,
c) water was rough anyway with building swells ...

so really I should have replied no to the exercise ... and have to admit to over-riding "crews" comment as to whether it was a good idea !! We live and learn.

I haven't mentioned "damage" to SA - a pulled rubbing strake, far more serious and will keep that for my own lesson .. so lets leave it as a good lesson to only raft in more suitable conditions !!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: There\'s always one who want\'s to spoil it ...

50% time engine was actually knocked out of gear and was on to supplement charging carried out at Newport ... as you know electric card ran out while there ... so mains charger was limited in time for 2 largeish batt's.

Just because there's a wisp of sooty out me back-pipe .... doesn't mean to say it's in gear !!!!

I based current on Adm. Current Charts and also the Lowrance puts it up on screen as part of the Nautipath Chart system ... seemed to agree as well ....

Anyway .... Steve / Jimbuoy ........... let's stop the serious stuff .... we all had a great time and I'm looking fwd to next jaunt !!!!

Re: The combined anchoring was really a daft idea ...

All I said was that I learnt a lesson.... actually I was shown the relevance of something I had been told in the past. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif and should have remembered

But seeing as you started... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes it was a bad idea, but the only idea I had was to anchor, I wanted the practice.
Bow to stern might have been better.
or anchor yourself?
or don't anchor at all, no one forced you.

The anchoring position was fine.... sea state was nice.... other then the wash from a passing vessel which was the real cause of the problem.

As I said... I learnt a lesson... which unfortunately requires a mast climb.... I'd rather I had a rubbing strake to deal with.

Lets not fall out over it.... done and dusted now. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now there's the engine question.... if you need to run your engine after the best part of a day and 3 nights on shore power you need you need to invest in a real charger.... just like mine /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Or keep ya beer a little warmer....???

BUT. All in all I had a cracking time... dispite still recovering from a serious case of Male Flu.

Charging ...

<<if you need to run your engine after the best part of a day and 3 nights on shore power you need you need to invest in a real charger.... just like mine >>

Jim ... in fact I had little more than 1 day on charge swapping two batt's - so was concerned to make sure that approx. 170 A/hrs of batt cap. was as full as possible ... we hadn't decided whether we would do HM or Hayles pontoon - so was making sure if no power at Yarmouth - I would have plenty to also give me Ryde and back to HYCO still as full as poss.

C'mon guys - it was a cracking time .. really enjoyed it ...
