Where can I buy rolls of coloured vinyl stripey stuff to put on my hull to make it look nice? I have a Sadler 26 and the official Sadler stuff is too dear.

SAC tel:01384 375383

I used them when I did my old Hunter 26 up. Very easy to apply and they do not get attacked by UV easily. I thought they were reasonably priced and a good supplier.

Regards.

Peter.

Or a good motor factors

Buy it on rolls .....

Old trick - mix water / fairy liquid and put length of strip in it ..... take it out sopping wet and apply to hull. DON't press down .... but you can slide the stripe till straight etc. THEN press hard into place squeezing out the water / fairy mix ...... it will dry stuck hard !! (The soapy water allows you to slide it around and breaks the surface tension etc. - without removing the adhesive ......)

If you don't believe me - try on a small piece first ....... old Coach-builders / car body people did this all the time !!

We too have a Sadler and we've patched the stripes with rolls of vinyl from Topcat Graphics (01952-728522 or topcat.graphics@virgin.net). We've used SAC for lettering but I think that Topcat were even cheaper for rolls of the stuff. You might find the widths offered don't quite match the original (probably metric vs imperial) which obviously doesn't matter if you're replacing the lot. However Topcat supplied me with vinyl to a requested exact width to match the old. Very very much cheaper than the 'official' stuff from M.Lucas.

I've used Topcat as well . They were fine.

If you are removing old stripes don't forget to get some "Adhesive Remover" from them. It works very well.

Nigel's right about using water to put on bigger stripes which can be impossible to handle otherwise. Use a very dilute mix of washing-up liquid and water, out of a plant spray bottle or similar. Sound's wrong but it works well. Curves are easier in warm weather we've found, and work in manageable sections - joins with a slight overlap don't really show afterwards.

If you want a particular width or colour, signwriters have computer-controlled cutters which cut sheet vinyl off their stock rolls to any shape you can specify.

I have fancy stripes; they were moulded into the hull. They look like someone has taken a half inch router from the bow to the stern. Very nice when new, but cr** when old. I am re-painting the hull this winter with 2 pot. What do I use for the Gold fancy cut out line (bet it has a fancy name).

Any ideas anyone?

You use gold. Someone else will explain in more detail.

I have never done it myself but I am certain someone else has done it.
