Fancy a Job on the river?

A Master's (Class-1) for 50K - they must be dreaming !
A spotty 22 year-old with a Second Mates (Class-3) and DP ticket can get 60K (net) for six months work.

Don't underestimate the attraction of a job like this to a seafarer looking to swallow the anchor and find a decent shore based job. Merchant Navy qualifications and experience don't exactly equip you for many other employment opportunities.

Have to be desperate to come ashore for that.
Plenty of better paid jobs these days. I've been ashore for the past four years and still get regular offers for other work.

Plenty of well paid jobs ashore for Former Deck Officers of all ranks, especially in London which has a huge shipping industry, both Owners, Charterers, Brokers, technical owners, IMO all need experienced Mariners to manage the business. Work as an Operations Superintendent and spend 6 months of the year driving a desk and 6 months of the year trouble shooting Tankers around the world...

I keep getting offers to go back to sea full time as a Master on an Anchor Cranker (AHTS) but A) used to being home more often than being away now b) would be a pay cut, though Tax Free....
