Went to cardiff bay with the wayfarer and thanks to formulite graham actually got some pics of the new boat sailing
twas gusting very nicely at times starting to feel more confident now so not having to drop the power all the time
Tried to heave to do some jobs at one point but just ended up going in circles so may have to look at that when theres not so much wind

We still have our Wayfarer at Lochmaben, but Mrs Dougie's sore back has limited the number of sails this season - getting her out of the water is the problem - the boat that is - but she remains a joy to sail on a fine afternoon.

Happy sailing

Wouldnt be surprised if we dont see them sailing across next season .

I went over the boat for an hour with one of my boys it was absolutely flat calm at 10 am. Flying fifteens were paddling to get out to their start line.We motored out into the bay then noticed a few ripples so hoisted the sails by then it was a perfect sailing breeze so we reached up towards Mermaid Quay and got some pictures of SL and his lad in the Wayfarer. We put a couple of rolls in the genoa to improve forward visibility as there was a dinghy regatta going on and reached back up the bay at 6 knots plus.

Sadly didnt have time to meet up with SL and crew,we then had to moor the boat and rush off ,but glad to have had my sailing "fix" for the day.

There is a well proven upgrade path. I went from a Wayfarer to a Sadler 29! But I did have the Wayfarer for 18 years before I got around to changing.

Re: fanatastic days sailing

Could have been better if you'd trimmed the boat.
Get your weight forward gentlemen - you'll go faster and be more stable if the transom isn't digging in and the boat is level.
Promise!

Re: fanatastic days sailing

I thought the same about the weight distribution.

But there's 12kg of outboard hanging off the back, and the crew looks quite light anyway so I'm not sure how much difference it would make. Normally my crew would be up right next to the shrouds, but that means he/she gets to sit on top of the genoa tracks when not up on the rail.

I have the same problem in my Heron. I'm not so good with the tiller
extension and if I forget to ship the rowlocks it gets a bit uncomfortable (You can just see it in the pic).
The point about the outboard hanging out the stern is probably good.
