At this time off year we restrict ourselves to Marina hoping.

Using a fan heater for heating... The problem is they soon become nosey, I am gain sitting here listening to one rattling away the bearings are shot...

Any suggestions on a powerful , quite, compact fan heater, 2kw minimum.

i prefer a large fan over the letter box type as less wind noise

Currys and possibly Argos and others do a white plastic cased fan heater for about a tenner. In a few weeks time they may even be reduced in price.
I bought one last year and it is fine . We used it on the boat a good deal last year - during the months formerly known a summer.
I do not expect it to last forever.

I last bought a fan heater (3kW) in my teens and just after my 60th birthday - just as the freeze began, my CH boiler stopped. I have used the fan heater in the yard on the boat for years, but before I could react to the lack of fan noise, the element had blown! Failed after only forty years! Well at least the next one may see me out. It does show that a bit of fan niose may have some advantages, though.

Green house heater may be a good choice....
Mine is this one http://www.tesco.com/direct/gardman-greenhouse-and-conservatory-heater/205-1624.prd although I think I bought it from B&Q.
1 or 2 kwatt, thermostat. Safety switch in base so switches off if tipped over. Not excessively noisy Not an elegant looking domestic appliance though... just functional.

Very often fan heater fans need a drop of oil on the bearings . Every year if used a lot.

Well there was no wind this morning with not much forecast for this afternoon... So we had a day off the boat...

We picked up one of these: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4153575.htm

Not the cheapest, the last model was and it last about 6 months before it starting vibrating. By this morning at 18 months later it was sounding like a bag of marbles in a tumble drier...

The previous model had been been Delonghi and that managed 4 or 5 years, so we will see with this one...
