We are a family of four (two girls 7 and 11) and we have decided that there is a whole world out there for us to see. We want to sail around the world (not in a hurry with no particular place to go). We need to start from scratch so where do we start? We are wondering if there are any captains willing to sell/lease their boat but remain on board with us to travel the world. We are guppies when it comes to sailing so we need an experienced teacher. We are however very willing students. Any advice? Any people out there we can talk to?

I would suggest that you take at least day skipper courses, and then do a flotilla holiday, ( South Ionion can be gentle) if you have never been sailing before, you may not like it! In my view everyone taking to the water should have an understanding of navigation and colregs.
If you log onto www.rya.org they list a number of books, also Sell up and sail by Bill & Laurel Cooper.
You need to be of the right stuff when the going gets tough! and it will at times, but what a great way of life
Good luck with your adventures hope it works out for you.
