One that floats, anything compatible with two sets of school fees..... suggest something very very cheap.... built in Playstation...one with sails, locks on the fridge, self folding clothes lockers, storage space for 4,700 CDs, finally, the most important bit of all.... extremely large power generating capacity for the 27 bits of music related consumer technology that will need recharging every 4 hours....

As much room as possible and as many comforts as you can fit on a boat, They need to be easy to handle if poss, as its difficult to keep an eye on kids, they will always either try and help or follow you around unless you tie them down, and they learn to untie things very early on.

In most of our experience the one that we can afford that the missus likes. New stats out recently shows the wife actually has the say the husband only presents the ideas so you can tell Porrick later what boat you are buying next then /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Little things like toilet, shower, ho/cold running water, cooker and proper beds rather than bunks with lee cloths. Must also be easy to sail single handed and have a place in the cockpit for people to sit whilst under way.

Dunno - looking for one at the moment!
Criteria so far seem to be:
- Big berths, none of this sea berth / stuffy quarter berth business
- Pressurised H&C a must (although never used)
- Some form of foot brace in the cockpit for short (kids) legs
- No smell
- Decent upholstery
- Single line reefing
- All lines led aft
- Electric windlass
- Heating
- Reasonable displacement (good solid feel)

No wonder I cant afford anything they like!

There is no such thing. There is only compromise and conflict. She wants a floating cottage with hot and cold, beds not bunks, suitable presonal hygene facilities, and it must sail like a church steeple. If it has rambling roses over the transom, so much the better.

He wants something in which he can cross the Southern Ocean, win the club regatta, requires no maintenance and only takes up a 26ft berth at the marina.

The kids, on the other hand, have varying requirements from the playpen at age three but ending in having nothing whatsoever to do with the boat when they discover the opposite sex, booze and fags at age 13.

Sailor I know had the ideal family cruiser. It was called "Hidden Secret" because (allegedly) neither his wife nor kids knew it existed
