Hi has anyone done the Falmouth to Kinsale crossing ? planning a cruise there this summer and wondered how long it took :encouragement:

When I did it, I stopped over in the Isles of Scilly. Both ways.

Going out the last leg took about 24 hours (Hugh Town to Kinsale), coming back 19 (Kinsale to St Martin's).

It's just under 200 miles, ~45 to Land's End and about 150 from Land's End to Kinsale.

Exactly this trip took from early (7am ish) Saturday to lunchtime Sunday when I last did it, so a little over 30 hours: it wasn't directly into a strong headwind 'tho so averaging 6 knots was possible.

You can carry a fair tide all the way from Falmouth past the Manacles, Black Head, Lizard, Runnel Stone and round the land outside Longships: set off around 3rs after HW Falmouth.

Beware that there is a TSS off Land's End which extends quite a way north which you shouldn't cross on the direct course to Kinsale as this would be at an oblique angle across the TSS. So you either go straight across it (ie due W) until on the far side of the TSS then NW, or go N until past the end of it, and then NW. We went out by going round the N, and came back across it from just N of 7 Stones. Depends on the wind direction at the time.
